Luke, the dog who is the newest member of the Annapolis Police Department, sniffs out drugs planted for a demonstration.There's a new dog in town, thanks to the help of a county couple. Art and Jean Held, owners of the former Johnson's On The Avenue on State Circle, donated money to the Annapolis Police Department for the purchase and maintenance of a new police dog. The couple also recently donated money to the county Police Department for a new Segway. It all started with the 50th anniversary of Johnson's On The Avenue in 2002, when the Helds said they decided they wanted to give back to their community. Wow, the generosity of the Helds is amazing! It is nice to see citizens that are in a position to help fund public safety projects do so. Although you may not think so at times, the budgets for public safety are far below ideal and are barley adequate to cover BASIC needs of the agencies. Again, thank you Helds!!
