Basketball league brings public housing youths togetherPublished 08/04/08
A crowd gathered in the early evening on the ball courts behind the recreation center in the Robinwood Community, one of several public housing projects managed by the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis.

Eastport coach Maurica Simms offers advice to her players during a Saturday basketball game against a team from Robinwood. The players are members of the inaugural 17 & Under Inner-City Summer Basketball League for male, high-school-age teens who live in project housing in Annapolis. It’s the first league of its kind in about 20 years. They gathered to watch teenage males from Eastport and Robinwood compete in basketball. The players on each side showed off their skills as they circled warily around each other, looking for an advantage, seeking the other side's weaknesses.
