"In the late '50s, I sold 18 acres to the Parole Plaza for $180,000." Fast forward 50 years or so to the upcoming Annapolis Towne Centre, rising over the site of the old 60s-era shopping.
In 2004, developers Greenberg Gibbons Commercial purchased the property for approximately $26 million dollars. "Of course," Hyatt pointed out, "that was for the entire 32 or so acres." But it still shows you how much things change."

Up Side - 2008-10-13 13:51:43
On the up side, at least in these treacherous economic times, jobs have been created, for that I am grateful.

and what about runoff - 2008-10-10 17:51:52
What impact is all the extra traffic and impervious surface going to have on the South River?

Financing? - 2008-10-10 03:52:19
Has anyone looked at the financing of this project? We can assume it was built with borrowed money. What happens when they have to roll over the loans?

Next Chapter...Traffic!! - 2008-10-08 18:08:00
I can't wait until the traffic comes to a dead stop on the weekends around Parole. Who is going to be able to afford the apartments they built or the condos? 1901 West struggles to get stores into its spaces and I wonder how they're doing in this economy. I also wonder how many historical artifacts may be under all that concrete (and I'm not talking remnants of the strip mall that once stood there!).

What a nightmare! - 2008-10-08 08:10:57
This development is a nightmare come true. As the economy turns south in a hurry, just wait and see how long the Parole Town Center remains full--or even at 50% commercial occupancy. The residential units will, in short order, become commercial office space, and the whole project will tank. Not to mention the fact that the scale is way too large for the area. Clearly this kind of project should never have been approved in the first place.

Freaken Huge - 2008-10-07 13:25:37
What a monstrosity...thanks Janet Owens. I cant wait until the shops open and traffic comes to a stand still. I remember when there was no mall just Wards and Parole with all the shops. I'm not against growth but Parole is out of control. No thought was given to traffic at all.

City limits. - 2008-10-07 09:23:27
Technically it?s not in the city limits but that?s moot at best. When parole was built it was definitely outside but Annapolis government backed it and the city essentially has grown to envelop it. Arguing weather it is in or outside the city is rather pointless.

The Parole Town Center at Parole?
This "town center" is located in Parole and NOT in Annapolis.

I agree - 2008-10-07 08:42:33
The place is a monstrosity. by there own admission many of the shops are going to be empty and it is doubtful there going to fill them or keep them full. The project was too ambitious. I still can?t get over the multi million dollar holms there building that ore overlooking Target. Are people really dumb enough to buy these places just because it can see the bay? For that kind of money you can buy a house on the bay.
