Annapolis outpulls Eastport

It was the last pull that did it. Annapolis yanked its way to victory in the 11th-annual Slaughter Across the Water tug-of-war battle with the upstart, though usually dominant Maritime Republic of Eastport.

The tie-breaker seventh pull of the competition, pitting teams of tuggers lined up on opposite shores of Spa Creek yanking on a specially made 1,700-foot-long rope, was the kicker.

The event, which provides a good time for a good cause benefitting several charities, was tied three-all after the official six-tug schedule.

But Annapolis pulled it out.

"Oh well. We have to let them win once and a while,"...

I noticed on the Eastport side that all of the tuggers were on one side of the rope and on the Annapolis side they were on both sides of the rope. I thought is was a rule that you could only be on one side of the rope or is that just Eastport's preference?
