Sara Proctor figured out early on an effective way to break into Annapolis' famed sailing scene - she showed up with beer.

Artist Sara Proctor with her framed winning artwork that now is on the official 2008 Lights Parade poster. An artist reception and unveiling was held at the Eastport Yacht Club earlier this month. "That's how she got on the crew," said local racer Kristen Robinson. Ms. Robinson and her husband, Brian, who own a J/80 racing boat named Angry Chameleon, took Ms. Proctor, 25, under their wings two years ago when she moved to Annapolis and wanted to learn to sail. Since then, Ms. Proctor has traveled the country with the Arnold couple, who compete in local, national and international regattas.
