City police deploying aggressive crime plan

The Annapolis Police Department unveiled its Crime Fighting Strategy 2009 on Friday, outlining a blueprint that will continue to target, among other things, getting habitual criminals off the streets in the most crime-stricken communities in the city.

While issuing an annual crime plan is not new, this year's is different: It details the continuation of a program that brought major crime in 2008 down to the lowest point in 20 years - and led to an 83 percent drop in homicides so far this year, from January through May, over the same period last year.
