For 8-year-old Heather Flaherty of Crownsville, the strangely-shaped rock she picked up turned out to be an ancient ax.
"I was just lookin' and walkin', I just looked and there it was," she said. "I just saw it laying there."
Heather - an animal lover who has named every one of her 20 chickens, one chinchilla, two hamsters, two guinea pigs, two birds, one rabbit, one dog and five fish - found the stone implement July 8 near the chicken coops behind her family's home.
