Bay Area Community Church members have brought relief to war-torn areas of Sudan, built orphanages in India, helped street children in Nigeria and served AIDS victims in Uganda, but it's a warm-and-fuzzy mission closer to home that unites a group of handcrafters every month.

Longtime quilter Candy Mollica cuts strips to make a lap quilt. The Annapolis Chapter of "Quilts for Kids" hopes to deliver lap quilts to patients at the VA hospital in Baltimore by Memorial Day.
Instead of power tools and medical supplies, volunteers in the Annapolis chapter of Quilts for Kids use spools of thread and scraps of cloth as instruments of comfort and care. The large contemporary-styled church on Chesterfield Road serves as their home base.
