The City of Annapolis has boards and commissions that advise the mayor and the rest of the City Council on a variety of topics. Most of these volunteer positions are open to all city residents; some are ward-specific as well.

The following boards are in need of volunteers:

The Civil Service Board has one vacancy for a city resident.

The Maritime Advisory Board has a vacancy for a representative of a maritime industry in Annapolis.

The Art in Public Places commission is seeking an applicant with Internet and computer experience from wards 3 or 6.

The Human Relations Commission is seeking applicants, preferably from the Latino community, for one vacancy on that board.

The Transportation Board is seeking applicants from all eight wards with an interest and/or expertise in transportation.

To learn more about the city's 33 boards and commissions, including descriptions of the boards and requirements to serve, visit www.annapolis.gov/info.asp?page=1312.

If you have questions or wish to submit your resume, contact Boards and Commissions Coordinator Hilary Raftovich at boards@annapolis.gov. We will be adding a new feature to our Web site soon that will allow you to check on vacancies and fill out an application online.

If you are interested in a board or commission that does not currently have a vacancy, submit a resume as vacancies do arise periodically.

The Annapolis Police Department will once again offer fingerprinting service to the public on the following days and times:

Every Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. and every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Starting on April 3, fingerprinting will also be available on the first Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There is a $5 fee for each fingerprint card and individuals must bring their own card. Payment must be made by check or money order, as the Annapolis Police Department can not accept cash. The fingerprinting will be at police headquarters, 199 Taylor Ave. For more information, call 410-268-9000.

The Annapolis Police Department Neighborhood Safety Council will host a special presentation focused on alerting residents to Internet sexual predators, cyber-bulling and gangs in the city.

The guest speaker will be Bruce Lohr, a crime prevention specialist for the Maryland Community Crime Prevention Institute.

The presentation will take place on March 30 at the Annapolis Police Department Headquarters, located at 199 Taylor Ave.

This valuable information will be presented from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is free to the public. However, the police department is asking for participants to RSVP Stacy Bolin at 410-268-9000, Ext. 7331.

The City of Annapolis Transportation Development Plan is now complete and ready for public review and comment.

Hard copies may be reviewed at the following locations: The Department of Transportation, 308 Chinquapin Round Road; the Planning & Zoning Department, 145 Gorman St.; City Hall, 160 Duke of Gloucester St.; and the Annapolis and Hillsmere branches of the public library system.

An electronic version of the plan can be found on the city's Web site at www.annapolis.gov under Reports.

Don't forget: For all the week's news and information from City Hall, watch the mayor's weekly video update.

It can be found at www.annapolis.gov in the right hand corner under the Mayor's Corner.

The mayor's State of the City Address can also be viewed online at www.annapolis.gov, by clicking on the City TV icon. Then click the On Demand tab and select State of the City Address from the menu provided.

The mayor also invites you to send your ideas, comment and concerns by leaving him a comment on his blog, www.mayorcohen.com or e-mailing him at mayor@annapolis.gov
