Her parents gave their new baby daughter the perfectly sweet-sounding first name Gayle, and then rarely used it.
Instead, when Gayle Friday was a few days old, the Gloversville, NY, couple nicknamed their baby daughter "Stormy" Friday. The moniker stuck.
Growing up in Gloversville had its impact, too. It was once the glove-making and leather garment capital of the world.
