A 32-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning after he crashed his motorcycle into a car, city police said.
Police investigations showed David Anthony Hall of Arnold was driving his motorcycle just before 1 a.m. on Monterey Avenue toward Ridgely Avenue. He failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into the side of a 1996 Oldsmobile Ciera. He was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The driver of the car, Larry Callis, 47, of Cypress Road in Annapolis was trapped in his car and was freed by the city Fire Department. He also was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he was treated for a broken arm, police said.
A Department of Defense officer reported he had been working a speed-enforcement detail at Gate 8 of the Naval Academy when the motorcyclist drove past him from the direction of the Naval Academy Bridge at a high speed. The officer attempted to stop the motorcyclist for speeding, but he didn't stop, the officer told Annapolis police.
He was apparently in the process of notifying Annapolis police about the biker when the accident happened, police said this morning. He was not actively pursuing the motorcycle at the time of the crash, police said.
Mr. Hall's family could not be reached for comment.
Police could not say this morning if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. Police officials were unavailable for further comment.
This is the first fatal accident in the city this year, according to police reports. Records show there were at least two fatal accidents on city roads last year.

Stop sign - July 8, 2008
I believe the story is correct. The stop light on Ridgely in West Annapolis is at Melvin, not Monterey.

Stop Sign? - July 8, 2008
This intersection is a STOP LIGHT. NOT a stop sign. The reports from the police or the local news is not correct. Can we get this story correct? douglas moore
