People are sloughing off their summer lethargy and diving into a slew of activities. Scouts are performing community service or selling cookies to support new projects.

Boy Scouts stand near the project that earned Matt Unglesbee an Eagle Award. He developed and supervised a project to build a new canoe rack for a Cape St. Claire beach. Six teens in Boy Scout Troop 835 officially earned their Eagle badge in a special ceremony earlier this month. The scouts are attending or are graduates of Broadneck High. Other kids are learning some life lessons about substance abuse; some are fundraising to bring 21st-century technology into their classrooms or to keep the bay's lighthouses shining brightly.
Boy Scout Troop 835 seems to be a giant eagles' nest. Since Mike Allen became Scoutmaster, more than 50 teen boys have completed the requirements to become an Eagle Scout, just as high as you can soar as a Boy Scout. Only a small fraction of the boys who...
