5th Quarter a fun, post-game event for teens

Out of the darkness, hundreds of teenagers emerge and amble across the roadway, well-lit by temporary lights mounted on metal towers.

The more than 50 members of the Broadneck Evangelical Presbyterian Church’s youth group pitch in alongside over 100 adult members of the church to organize 5th Quarter, a post home-game ritual after Broadneck High School football games. The next 5th Quarter is Friday after Broadneck competes against the Chesapeake High. 5th Quarter is held at Broadneck Park, across College Parkway and ends at 11:30 p.m.

Some nighttime drivers on College Parkway on the Broadneck Peninsula are startled when stopped by traffic police at the intersection of Green Holly Drive.

Where would all those teenagers be heading at 9 p.m. on a weekend night?

To 5th Quarter, of course. It's a Broadneck High School tradition.
