Karate teaches students respect and self-defensePublished 05/29/07
Joe Percivall of Crofton received his black belt ranking during the Dragon Storm Karate Club's annual schoolwide promotion night at Crofton Middle School, a program offered through the county's Department of Recreation and Parks. Joe, 15, is a student at South River High and has studied Kenpo Karate for eight years. He is only the third junior black belt within the program. Kenpo is considered a close-in fighting-style karate. It combines the high kicks of Tae Kwon Do with hip throws and grabs from Judo, submission holds and arm-bars from Jiu-Jitsu, slow movements from Tai Chi, elbow and knee strikes from Muay Thai boxing and...
