Around Crofton:Benefit birthdays spark new trend

It all started in March 2007 when Lauren Daly of Crofton threw a Pink Poodle Party for her 10th birthday and asked that in place of presents, her friends bring dog food and cat toys to donate to the animals at the SPCA of Anne Arundel County in Annapolis.

In March 2008 she did it again for her 11th birthday, only the theme was Movie Night Party. Donations included 160 pounds of dog food, 15 pounds of dog biscuits and treats, and a bag of toys from friends including Shannon Flaherty, Maddie Poole, Kelly Poole, Lindsey Airth, Olivia Wates, Kathryn Biddle, Katie Berkowitz, Cindy LaBarge and Alanna Joyce, all of Crofton.
