The Annearrundell County Free School, circa 1724, was the county's first school paid for with taxpayers' money after the Colonial Assembly passed the Free School Act.

Howard Hall of Glen Burnie stands with the colonial flag in the Annearrundell Free School. Mr. Hall has been giving tours at the school since. 1991.The act stated that each of the existing 12 counties in Maryland could have one school centrally located. Situated in a neighborhood just a few miles from Crofton, the school now sits on 1 1/2 acres. Free tours are offered to the public. Howard Hall of Glen Burnie is a member of the Anne Arundel Retired School Personnel Association and has been giving tours at the school since 1991.
