Eric Hartley:Let's keep BRAC in perspectivePublished 09/27/07
In the past two years, local politicians' favorite way to start a sentence has been: "Well, with BRAC coming ..."
It's become our local version of: "Since 9/11 ..." We've heard that the thousands of jobs moving to Fort George G. Meade will impact or strain just about every service in the county: schools, roads, shopping, housing, police and fire protection, the court system.
But has the impact been overstated, risking a sort of BRAC fatigue, especially since jobs aren't expected to move in earnest until 2011? Do people care much about BRAC? Should they? Driving around west county this week and talking to people, I found...
