Tattoo parlor ban is latest snob zoningPublished 03/20/08
The stated goal behind one of County Councilman Ed Middlebrooks' latest bills is keeping town centers family friendly. And who could disagree with that? Well, unless your family likes to shoot pool or grandma is into tattoos. Mr. Middlebrooks, at the request of the Glen Burnie Town Center Advisory Committee, introduced a measure last month that would ban new tattoo parlors, billiard halls, arcades and fortune tellers (psychics, palm or tarot card readers and the like) from the county's three town centers. "We just want to make sure we maintain the image, a strong family wholesome image, of that area," he said this...

Interesting point about the tattoo parlors being ostracizes by this Mr. Middlebrooks. It seems this servant of the people has genuine hostility towards business. Silly me with all the businesses that have closed in the area, you would think that government would get their arms around small business and promote them, not conduct a witch-hunt. I think this person has his priorities not in order. Eric Rug

Thanks for the column on the idea of "snob zoning." It got me chuckling on how words are spun to fit what people want or find desirable. I have a tattoo myself and I am a professional who works for the government. I have a friend who is a married mother of a teenaged son and she has a few "tats" of her own. I just have to say, if you want Disney, go to Disneyland/World.
