Eric Hartley:School board selection still a mysteryPublished 06/19/08
Sam Georgiou was passed over again this week for an open seat on the county Board of Education, so he's hardly objective about the process. But he's not just some disgruntled candidate. Though the governor didn't pick him, he was recommended by a bipartisan nominating commission that vetted the candidates. And he's been involved in local education for years, having served as chairman of a countywide citizen advisory committee. So we might be wise to listen when he says, having experienced it firsthand, that the way board members are picked has become less open, less public and simply less...
