Eric Hartley: Council loses voice of dissentPublished 11/29/09
Even if you didn't know what Julie Stankivic looked like, you could probably spot her during an Annapolis City Council meeting. She'd be the one rolling her eyes, shaking her head, or sighing quietly at what her colleagues and the mayor were about to do. When it was her turn to speak, she'd make her case passionately, but she'd still be on the losing end of a lot of 8-1 votes. Stankivic, who was elected alderman from Ward 6 in 2005, did not run for a second term this fall. Her tenure will end Dec. 7 when Alderman-elect Kenny Kirby is sworn in to replace her. I agree with this statement, but don't think public housing has anything to do with the lack of real integration in this town.
