Beach club memories all that remainPublished 09/20/07
When a fire destroyed the Selby Bay Beach Club building Monday evening, the source of a lot of memories also went up in smoke.
This is all that remains of the Selby Bay clubhouse after a fire Monday evening. One small wing of the building that was once hopping with dances, community picnics, a concession stand for summer beach-goers, and even Miss Selby contests, is visible at the left.
The building had stood for years and withstood a protracted legal battle over ownership of the property. But it didn't survive the two-alarm blaze that started at 7:18 p.m.
Gayle Roy had a difficult time keeping her emotions in control as she watched the fire ravage the beach house. "When the porch fell onto the beach I just broke up," she said.
