One of Anne Arundel County's most famous Irish forebears was Charles Carroll of Carrollton the richest man in North America at the time he signed the Declaration of Independence.
Signing that document was a risky thing for a man of wealth, but perhaps even riskier for a disenfranchised Roman Catholic. He was on the right side of history and survived to age 95.
Now, 176 years after his passing, southern Anne Arundel County is still getting its Irish on. At events throughout March, we are showcasing our proud Irish heritage with music, dance and storytelling.
