Rube Goldberg (1883-1970) was a newspaper cartoonist for much of his life. It earned him a Pulitzer Prize in 1948. He was most famous for his depictions of complex machines that execute a simple task.

South River High School's honors pre-engineering class spent months constructing a Rube Goldberg machine.
