Controversy over church school reaches councilPublished 11/18/08
South county residents who thought they had successfully stopped construction of a large church school in their quiet rural corner of the county urged the County Council last night to vote down a bill that would clear the way for the project. The bill came out of a settlement of a federal religious discrimination lawsuit against the county that requires the county to create loopholes in two zoning rules so construction can proceed. The settlement was sought so the county could avoid paying damages, possibly in the millions of dollars.
