Quirky south county radio goes live at roller derbyPublished 02/03/09
WASHINGTON, D.C. - WRYR staffers went to Washington last week to pull off their first live broadcast for their low-power station at 97.5 FM.
TOP: WRYR-FM broadcaster Andy Och got help from roller derby enthusiast "Shredica" for the station's first live coverage of the D.C. Rollergirls last week. Inauguration wrap-up? Well, no. Roller derby. That's right, roller derby. The crew from the south county radio station packed up their microphones, wires, mixing board and laptop computers Jan. 24 and headed to the old D.C. Armory for a bout between Scare Force One and the Cherry Blossom Bombshells, of the fledgling D.C. Rollergirls flat track roller derby league.
