The Severn River Garden Club's Essay and Speech contest entries brought in three first-place winners from Severn School in the National Federated Garden Club's annual contest. The garden club sponsored the contest for students in grades 9 to 12 who attend local schools. Dr. Jackie Baugh, Severn School instructor and Oratorical Society adviser, submitted 50 entries from . the English department. The club chose five or six to send off for regional and state judging.
