Around the Park: S.P. man has 'ride of his life'

Philip Kaine, 85, had the "ride of his life" on Sept. 11 when he climbed aboard a light sport aircraft at the Bay Bridge Airport.

He boarded not as a passenger, but as the pilot, licensed since 1940 when he earned his wings serving in the Army during World War II.

It's been 15 years since he's flown a plane but the feeling of joy and the technical aspects of working the instruments came back to him immediately.

Thanks to the generosity of the Sport Pilot Flight School and the Bay Bridge Airport, Mr. Kaine boarded and flew the plane along with Bob Wright, an instructor with the school. "I...
