Around the Park: S.P. man has 'ride of his life'Published 09/25/08
Philip Kaine, 85, had the "ride of his life" on Sept. 11 when he climbed aboard a light sport aircraft at the Bay Bridge Airport.

He was accompanied on his flight by instructor Bob Wright, but Mr. Kaine, who learned to fly in the Army in World War II, flew the plane. He boarded not as a passenger, but as the pilot, licensed since 1940 when he earned his wings serving in the Army during World War II. It's been 15 years since he's flown a plane but the feeling of joy and the technical aspects of working the instruments came back to him immediately. Thanks to the generosity of the Sport Pilot Flight School and the Bay Bridge Airport, Mr. Kaine boarded and flew the plane along with Bob Wright, an instructor with the school. "I...
