Around the Park: Falcon gridders take to the books in Jones Elementary School event

More than half of the Severna Park High School Falcons football team filed into the front office at Jones Elementary School on Friday.

Branden Geldart, a junior at Severna Park High School, reads and shows a picture from a Dr. Seuss book to second-graders at Jones Elementary School on Friday. Branden took part in the ‘‘Football Champions of Reading’’ day at the school along with most of his Falcon teammates who came to the school as guest readers.

A line formed around the reception desk as they signed in, each wearing his team jersey and clutching not footballs, but instead, a variety of hard-cover picture books.

The 28 players (there are 45 on the team) had just finished their school day and came directly to Jones upon invitation from Amy Baringer, the school's media specialist.

As they headed down the hallway toward the media center, a few excited shouts of "The Falcons are here" and muffled whispers and giggles...

I'm so proud of our guys on the Falcons Team for giving back to their community and the youger kids like this. A special Thanks to Mrs. Baringer for coordinating it, BRILIANT IDEA!!!
