Deale student wins outstanding safety patroller of the year for county schoolsPublished 06/25/09
Alissa Ferranti let out a "shriek of emotion" upon learning that she was named Anne Arundel County Public Schools' Outstanding School Safety Patroller of the Year.

Alissa, a fifth-grader at Deale Elementary, was named the Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ Outstanding School Safety Patroller of the Year for her dedication and hard work throughout this school year. It was the second straight year a student from Deale has won this honor. The news was delivered to the Deale Elementary School fifth-grader earlier this month by her gym teacher, Vern Brumfield. Brumfield, also the schools' safety patrol coordinator, said that when he called Alissa: "She let out a shriek of emotion like she might have seen a mouse or something . . . it really caught her by surprise, because she didn't know she was nominated."
