Around the Park: 'We lost an icon:' Joe Gillespie, former coach and mentor, diesPublished 07/02/09
The Greater Severna Park Athletic Association delivered sad news to its thousands of members earlier this week as one of the original 'founding fathers' of the Green Hornets organization. Joseph Gillespie, 76, passed away Monday from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Memorial Services were to be held today at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church. Andy Borland, former athletic director at Severna Park High School and longtime Green Hornets coach, first met Joe as a member of Woods Church many moons ago. "He was a mentor to me," said Andy.
