During a rainstorm last May, a dam failed at a Severna Park country club, unleashing thousands of gallons of water that opened a sinkhole and washed out a community thoroughfare.

More than a year after a burst dam washed out St. Andrews Road in Severna Park, the county has spent $2.2 million but not finished the work necessary to reopen the thoroughfare. The closed road adds as much as 15 minutes to morning commutes, and the project’s duration and cost have raised eyebrows among county officials.More than a year later, the Chartwell neighborhood remains cut in half by the closed road, and residents are beginning to question how it can take so long to repair just a few hundred feet of roadway. The $2.2 million price tag is expected to grow, and County Council Chairwoman Cathy Vitale said she wants a review of how that money was spent.
