Around the Park: Eco-Adventure Camp fun for kids

"Manatees are big and gray" sang 15 "eco-explorers," ranging in age from 5 to 11, as they marched through an audience of proud parents during a show held Saturday at Severna Park Community Center. They stopped before an array of critters they became acquainted with during a four-day "Eco-Adventure Camp" presented by Chelonia Eco-Adventures founder Mei Len Sanchez-Barr.

TOP: With instructor Mei Len Sanchez-Barr in charge of the head and Lia Barrow, 7, Jason Schomig, 6, Ryland Hester, 7, and Olivia Driver, 9, holding successive sections of “Popcorn,” a 6-foot-long albino Burmese python from southeast Asia, the reptile wasn’t likely to escape.

Attendees interacted with marine biologist Mei Len's menagerie of invertebrate worms, spiders, amphibians and reptiles, and explored endangered habitats including tropical rainforests, coral reefs and the Chesapeake Bay.
