Teen of the Week: Kelly Ferguson not just clowning aroundPublished 11/06/04
While some girls inadvertently pile on so much makeup that they look like clowns, that's exactly the effect Kelly Ferguson is trying to achieve. The summers of 2001, '02 and '03, the Arundel High School senior traveled to the town of Ugu in the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo. There, on a construction mission with other members of the Severn and Wheaton Southern Baptist churches, she helped to build six chapels. Kelly, a 17-year-old from Odenton, also distributed food and clothing to Ugu residents and practiced her clowning under the name "Alegria," which means joy.
