Senators push Obama for Meade cleanup

U.S. Sens. Barbara A. Mikulski and Benjamin L. Cardin are pressing President-elect Barack Obama to expedite environmental cleanups at Fort George G. Meade and other military installations after he assumes office in January.

Ms. Mikulski and Mr. Cardin, both Democrats, sent a letter to Mr. Obama's senate office last week, urging him to have the Department of Defense follow an order from the Environmental Protection Agency to clean up environmental hazards at Fort Meade, Fort Detrick in Frederick, and other installations throughout the country.
