Around West County: Arundel High musicians, marching guard big winners in AtlantaPublished 04/29/09
Musicians and guard members from Arundel High School returned from the 2009 Fiesta-Val competition in Atlanta April 19 with 12 trophies and three special achievement awards.

Sophomore vocalist Molly Sinnott, shown performing with the Arundel Jazz Band at the Maryland Jazz Festival in March, earned a special achievement award for jazz vocalist at the 2009 Fiesta-Val competition in Atlanta.Phillip Butts, director of music at Arundel High School, said he was pleased with the outcome of Fiesta-Val, which featured instrumental, choral and color guard students in national-level competition. Taking highest honors of the ensembles this year was the Arundel Marching Band, under the leadership of senior drum majors Sarah Wightman and Mary Rosekrans.
