Jazz was king in Jamaica long before reggae took the reigns. Monty Alexander was born and raised in Jamaica, recognized as a true talent soon after his first piano lessons at age six.

His music has underscored the likes of Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones, Sonny Rollins, Ray Brown and fellow countrymen Sly & Robbie, and Ernest Ranglin. He's been a hit on the Jamaican charts since the late '50s, mingling with heavyweights with names like Dizzy, Sonny and Terry.
