Dining Review: Middleton's: Taste of great food, historyPublished 10/11/08
In 1968, our country was embroiled in an unpopular war. Fearing defeat, President Johnson had announced that he would not run for re-election. That fall, it took the Tigers seven games to beat the defending World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals. Another autumn milestone in 1968 was the release of "Funny Girl," a blockbuster movie that would go on to win the Academy Award for best actress that year (Barbra Streisand tied Katherine Hepburn). Meanwhile, in our lovely little waterfront community, young Jerry Hardesty opened the doors of Middleton Tavern. It certainly wasn't the first time those tavern doors...
