The reason we have cliches, embrace truisms, remember old adages, and spout aphorisms? Because of the inherent truth in them.
A good thing for me that I believe firmly in getting back up on a horse after falling off or having been thrown (I have experienced the literal, as well as the figurative, in those).
Were it not for that belief, I probably would have given up oysters. I've had some pretty bad oysters recently -- mushy, overcooked, over-breaded, bitter and even some past their prime. But I soldiered on, and not only got back up on the horse, but galloped off happily as I was rewarded with some of the best oysters I've...
