Wild about Harry: Fans flock to latest 'Potter' film

You don't have to be a wizard to understand the spell that Harry Potter has cast upon movie-goers. You only had to show up at a movie theater last night in search of a ticket to the latest cinematic installment of the wildly successful J.K. Rowling series.

Kathryn Flynn — The Capital Christalene Karaiskakis, owner of Crystalooneys Creative Arts, paints a 'dark mark' — the symbol of Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters — on Mariel White, 13, of Arnold, before Wednesday morning's midnight premiere of 'Harry Potter and Half-Blood Prince' at Bow Tie Cinemas in the Westfield Annapolis mall. Karaiskakis painted dark marks, dragons and other Harry Potter-related artwork on the faces of fans who arrived at the theater hours before the premiere.

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" opened at 12:01 a.m. this morning to a show of enormous support nationwide.

Locally, Bow Tie Cinemas at Westfield Annapolis mall sold out every showing before 3 p.m., an employee at the theater said, and the Regal Bowie Crossing Stadium theater reported more than 1,000 people in attendance.
