A look at this season's theatrical performing arts

Yes, Virginia, it looks like you've been "scrooged" out of a local theatrical production of "A Christmas Carol" this holiday season. Two area theaters that traditionally present gala productions of the Charles Dickens' classic have opted, instead, to stage fresher fare.

Just a glance at the dazzling array of on-stage offerings listed now through next summer would cause even the most crotchety Ebenezer to jump for his Blackberry calendar. On weekends, there are so many shows on stage in this area, a devoted theater-goer would have a tough time seeing them all.
