For its fall concert offering on Friday and Saturday, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra has chosen a program titled "Masks and Mysteries," an intriguing array of musical pieces that fit that title well. The "Masks" part of the concert is represented by French composer Andre Caplet's "Conte Fantastique" based on Edgar Allan Poe's "Mask of the Red Death," while the rubric of "Mysteries" certainly describes Sir Edward Elgar's well-known "Enigma Variations," a series of coded musical portraits of his friends.
