Child's Play: Kinderman' brings his inspiring performance style to CACPublished 11/12/09
The Chesapeake Arts Center's Family Concert Series continues on Nov. 21 with "Kinderman," a highly interactive family program that engages the audience with original chants, story songs and call-and-response.

Audience members will learn a number of concepts including sign language, community building and fun learning games.
Three-time Emmy Award winner John "Kinderman" Taylor is nationally recognized for his innovations in educating, entertaining and inspiring the imaginations of children, teachers and parents. Kinderman has been honored and recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Head Start Association for his work and approach in educating children. A Master Teacher at the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts, Kinderman's approach is brought to life by incorporating movement, dance, rhyme, song, adventure, learning games and visuals into an interactive experience. Kinderman received his Emmys for his work on the "It's Kindertime Show," a program which he helped to conceptualize and co-produce. He is now the current host and producer of "The Kinderman Show," which airs on Baltimore's ABC Channel 2 at 6:30 and 7 on Saturday mornings. WHAT: "Kinderman" Dig deep into dino history at science centerEnjoy a prehistorc party during Dino Day from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Maryland Science Center. Celebrate all the great things discovered about dinosaurs throughout history. Enjoy a live reptile show and meet some real dino ancestors. You also can make a dino necklace, help dig for fossils and create colorful dino families. After digging up some history, make your own by creating a unique fossil to take home. All activities are free with paid admission. The Maryland Science Center is at 601 Light St. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Meet the authorEdward Allen Faine, author of "Little Ned Stories" and other children's books, will be at the Chesapeake Children's Museum, 25 Silopanna Road, from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 15. His program will feature "Going Places by Boat, Plane and Train" and "Aidan Saves the World From Global Warming." Each child will receive a copy of one of the books to keep. Scaredy scarecrowsChildren ages 3 to 5 can meet with a naturalist to learn about scarecrows at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Helen Avalynne Tawes Garden, 580 Taylor Ave. Following a walk through the garden, children can make a straw hat scarecrow and enjoy a treat. Cost is $1. Registration is required; call 410-260-8189. Library program"Thanks for Family and Friends" is the theme of a program of stories, fingerplays and crafts at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Crofton branch of the Anne Arundel County Public Library. Dinosaurs in Md.Children ages 3 to 5 can find out of dinosaurs lived in Maryland from 10 to 11 a.m. and from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, 647 Contees Wharf Road in Edgewater. Nature programsThe Patuxent Research Refuge will host a bird walk Nov. 18 at its Visitor Center location on Powder Mill Road between the Baltimore Washington Parkway and Route 197, Laurel.
