The show by Lesole's Dance Project emphasizes the role of dance in promoting a deeper understanding and acceptance among people of different backgrounds and cultural traditions. It supports the diversity of our community as it recognizes that even within the African continent, Western, Eastern, Northern and Southern traditions vary.
Lesole Maine and his dynamic troupe engage the audience throughout all three dance experiences: traditional Zulu/tribal dance, Gumboot (which originated in the gold mines of South Africa) and modern social/hip-hop dance known as Pantsula.
All shows begin at 7 p.m. and are appropriate for all ages. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Clay art workshop
Learn about one aspect of African American history with a Family Clay Art Workshop, from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in Baltimore.
In this session for all ages, participants will decorate African-inspired clay bowls and plates with Baltimore Clayworks artist Herb Massie.

Family concert at CAC
Award-winning songwriter Ray Owen is on stage on Feb. 18 at the Chesapeake Arts Center in both the Family Music Series as well as the Mid-Atlantic Music Series. The concerts will be performed in the Studio 194 Theatre at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and are suitable for all ages.
Tickets for the family show at 4 p.m. are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets for the Mid-Atlantic Music Series at 8 p.m. are available for $15 ($12 for CAC members). Owen is a national recording artist, award-winning songwriter and successful children's entertainer who is well-versed with many musical instruments. He moves easily from guitar and harmonica, to banjo and concertina to accompany his rich vocals, then strides to center stage to capture the hearts of children with endearing characters that reach out like a warm loving hug.
Amidst his sumptuous supply of rousing songs and rib-tickling stories, Owen's theatrical surprises and dramatic delivery enchant and delight, pulling you into a world of fun.
Patrons attending Owen's concert will also have the opportunity to browse through the gallery show by local oil painter Patrick Reid O'Brien in an exhibit titled 'Celebrate the Story of Your Life.' The exhibit will run until Feb. 28.
