Despite a growing grassroots effort to turn the tide, the South River slipped a couple points in the annual scorecard of the waterway's health.
The river's 2008 score fell to 34 out of 100 from last year's inaugural 39. A perfect score would indicate river conditions that existed in the 1950s. The scorecard is issued by the South River Federation
