Lawmakers get to know oystersPublished 08/17/08
Magothy River Association volunteers figured if they want a good shot at getting more money for restoring oysters, it would be a good idea to get some lawmakers to see the situation firsthand.

Del. Don Dwyer, R-Glen Burnie; Del. Steve Schuh, R-Gibson Island; and Magothy River Association President Paul Spadaro of Severna Park look at oysters that Mr. Schuh (bottom photo) helped collect from a reef near Dobbins Island on Saturday. The MRA organized a tour of some of the river's reefs to press lawmakers for support for the group's restoration efforts.So a trio of state lawmakers got up-close and personal with Magothy bivalves yesterday - and one lawmaker really got up-close and personal. Del. Steve Schuh, R-Gibson Island, donned his scuba gear and probed the murky Magothy's oyster reefs.
