Critical Area fight poised for Round 2

The wave of protesting residents who crowded into the County Council chambers two weeks ago to decry new enforcement of environmental laws crushed that proposal, but now they say their fight has not ended.

Residents frustrated with the Critical Area laws - and the county's enforcement of them - are organizing, setting the stage for a prolonged public squabble in the coming months.

As county officials grapple with new state penalties for breaking the environmental law that protects land 1,000 feet from the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay, some residents are forming a countywide group to help protect their property...

Critical Area Law was a great start in 1972. 1000ft from shoreline. Point of this whole law was to control the quality and quanity of the runoff as much as possible. I still say we need to institute the same policies throughout the entire watershed.
Yes, the sewage treatment systems are a major contributor to the pollution and we need to repair them so the rain doesn't fill them up. This has been going on since day 1. 1974 the plants were installed. They allways filled when it rained. We have to stop the major leaks 1st. The engineers are not doing their jobs. We have to go and make them or fire them. Let's roll. Sincerely,
