A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world. - Oscar Wilde

Zora Latham is the director of the Chesapeake Ecology CenterI see contoured knolls and swales and rain gardens abound, planted with lush native vegetation. I see rainscaping, to reduce polluted runoff, becoming commonplace. On weekend mornings, I hear birds singing, instead of the incessant drone of landscape assault weapons - that is, mowers, blowers and weed whackers. I see beautiful landscapes full of native plants, which require little or no fertilizer and pesticides, or watering other than what nature provides - in other words, healthy...

Green Dream of the earth. - 2008-08-31 23:10:20
The rain water (run off) retention technique she is writing about is the kind of landscaping that is best for the environment and healthy for the streams and bay. She is right on target. This is what we need to do to Save The Bay. Yes, all the storm drains are designed wrong also. We need the runoff to go into the ground. Simple as that. Not rocket science. We need rain gardens everywhere. Institute the Critical Area Laws in the entire watershed. The entire watershed is critical to the health of the Chesapeake. Farm bill is a great accomplishment.
