MDE creates new fly ash regulationsPublished 11/26/08
The state has written new rules for the disposal of fly ash, a substance that polluted wells in Gambrills with a cocktail of carcinogens. The regulations, which were created by Maryland Department of the Environment officials, go into effect Monday. They require liners, leachate collection systems, groundwater monitoring and tests at all new fly-ash disposal locations. The provisions are designed to prevent the public health problems that occurred in Gambrills from ever happening elsewhere, officials said.
