WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin is seeking more federal money to help rid the Chesapeake Bay of invasive nutria.
The large marsh rodents are voracious eaters, gobbling up grasses. They've caused considerable damage to marshes and wetlands, including destroying thousands acres of marshes at the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge near Cambridge.
Cardin's bill would give $4 million a year over five years toward nutria eradication in Maryland and Louisiana, as well as $1 million a year to other states, such as Delaware, Virginia, Oregon and...
