Seedlings of fabled Wye Oak availablePublished 10/13/09
It's been seven years since the state's famous Wye Oak came crashing to the ground, but people are still in love with the tree.

The Wye Oak is inspected after it came tumbling down during a storm in 2002. The state is selling seedlings grown from acorns from the famous champion tree. It’s one of the most popular items the state Department of Natural Resources sells. Wood from the Wye Oak, which was once the largest white oak in the nation, has been salvaged and turned into judges' gavels, pens, jewelry and even a desk for the governor. Acorns from the Wye Oak were harvested, too, and the state is once again selling seedlings grown from descendants of the tree. The seedlings - which cost $35 to $60 each - are one of the most popular items that have ever been sold by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The last time the Wye Oak seedlings...
